FINALS!

Alright!!! here goes everything! Finals start on tuesday and whether or not i am ready, they are coming. Sorry it has been a while sense I have updated you.... who ever 'you' are, I dont know if people actually read this but this way if someone says " you never tell me your college stories!" i can be like "huh, well obviously you dont care cuz my blog is up!" lol ... jk.

Ok so today I turned in my PRACTICE COMPANION which i have pretty much been working on all week.... because i didnt work on it as the quarter when so this last week i had to try to remember what i practiced on the 6th of oct. and so on..... wooohoo that was an adventure. BUT the good news is, i am dont with it and it is now in my professors hands :D success!

My finals schedule is not to bad:

Monday DEAD DAY - No classes... no rehearsals.... study day for us music majors PRACTICE DAY :D
Tuesday - One final, Piano (major & minor scales, harmonization, and a little dinky piece)
Then after that I have my Flute Jury ..... hopefully that goes well. The only thing
that is scary about this jury is that it is in the concert hall.... that just sounds uncomfortable to me!
Wednesday - probably my most SCARY day!! 4 hour theory final
(first 2 hours is written, last 2 hours is aural)
Then I have my audition for bands that night!!! However I am feeling
pretty comfortable with our audition piece, I just have to survive sight reading!
If i live through wednesday then we come to my FAVORITE day of finals week
Thursday!!!!! - history of jazz final at 8, should only take me about 45 min. and hopefully by
the time I am done my daddy will be here, or close, to take me HOME!!!!

I just cant wait for it all to be over! It is crazy to think how fast this quarter went. But im so happy it was fast, now just to survive 5 more quarters of theory! and only 2 more quarters of piano (hopefully)

I decorated my room this last week to get in the holiday spirit!!

Anyway, hope you are all doing well. If you are also suffering from the anxiety of upcoming finals then GOOD LUCK! :D

Hello!
I realized it has been a while since I posted anything about my life. So here it goes.

Halloween:
Well I did .... absolutely nothing. However, I still had my freshman music majors class (university 101) halloween night at 7 - 9! I didnt mind to much as I had  no plans for that night, but needless to say the rest of the class was anxious to go "trick-or-treating". A bunch of people were going to wear their halloween costumes to the class... but as i had no plans, I had no costume. So I used my always-handy Footie Pajamas and put my hear in pig tales and called that good :D
As I walked home after class there was a group of girls in their short skirts and tank tops standing out in the 29 degree weather. As i walked by I heard one of them say "WHY didnt i think of that?! Im freezing my butt off!!" ----Yeah! thats right, footies for the win!

I Cleaned My Room!Believe it or not... I did!! It was a COMPLETE mess! I had to literally leap to get onto my bed because of the pile of clothes and water bottles in front of my bed. Also, If I wanted to do work at my desk I had to fight back old food containers and a mess or cords to get space. So yesterday I decided to put a end to the nonsense. I also did my laundry for the second time since I have been here... dont worry I went home two weekends and did laundry, it was just the second time using our crappy machines. I could not get the washer to work!! there were two open and they BOTH would not register that I was putting quarters in... so I finally took some girls clothes out because her wash was done and she wasnt taking it out but I needed the washer... so I took her clothes out. and then karma got me and that machine took my quarters also! finally the last washer worked.... but then I had to walk all the way to the SURC to get more quarters so I could do my other wash and then dry them both. Went from a hour and a half laundry session to a three hour one...... Weeeee ... Needless to say, I prefer doing my laundry at home!!!

Any way... I think thats about it for me :D things are going well,
COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS TIL THANKS GIVING BREAK!!!

Home Sweet Home

Hi!

I am so glad to be home for the weekend! With nothing much to do on the weekends back at Central besides practicing, it is fun to be around my ridiculously cute nephews and of course the rest of the family :) I realized how nice it is to have little things accessible, such as a working fridge, and a washer and dryer that operate without magic metal disks. I have to admit, I felt a little odd walking out of my dorm yesterday with a duffle bag, a flute bag, and a laundry bag the size of my mini fridge. I could tell that everyone looking at me could tell that I was going home. The laundry bag alone gave that away, I have been on the other side of this situation a lot. Usually friday night, sitting on the grass out side our dorm, and in like 30 min I would see at least 20 people walk by with laundry bags exploding with clothes, knowing that they probably went the last 3 weeks without washing clothes seeing if they could make it until they went home next to wash their clothes. However, that was not the case for me. I just did laundry last friday.... so why was my laundry bag exploding with clothes??? I guess I just go through clothes fast? huh.... well now that you know all about my laundry situation, you will be happy to know that my clothes are being washed in a non-coin-operated washer and dryer :D oh the joys in life!

I am looking forward to going to my old ward for church tomorrow because my branch back in ellensburg has 30 people in it.... it is just sad and pathetic. When we sing in the chapel it is like we are a quartet because only a few people sing and of those people, only a few sing loud enough to hear them if you are sitting next to them. It is just strange... so needless to say, tomorrow will be nice :D

Thats it for now :)

Studying: more complicated then it sounds

Hello All!!!
I hope life is treating everyone well :D
Things have been awesome lately! Besides the fact that I cant tell the difference between a Perfect 5th or Perfect 4th.... and I dont play piano with enough "courage" so I got docked 13 points on my test today... and the fact that I can not jump around from "do" to "ti" to "sol"and all that crap... besides all that, I am absolutely loving it here!! And besides the fallowing story.

So I sat down on my bed today around 4:30 to get some theory done. I turned on some light music for background noise. I got super frustrated with theory... super frustrated. And  around 6:30 I heard this coming from down my hall. With my door closed it was not much softer then it is in this video. But it was so obnoxious I HAD to record it and put it on here so you all could understand how LOUD my floor is. Well its not really more FLOOR, it is about 5 girls on my FLOOR. They are always really loud and laugh and talk and yell loud ALL DAY AND NIGHT!! to make things even BETTER evidently one of them owns a KARAOKE machine. I have come to the conclusion that karaoke machines should forever be BANNED from dorm rooms!!

Well, I guess I will just learn to wear ear plugs when I enter my dorm :D woot!!

ITS FRIDAY!

Yay its friday!! That means I have 2 days to work on stupid theory and flute tech stuff.. woooot.

So...this week was AMAZING!! Wednesday I went to a flute and harp concert (my flute professor was the flutist). And it was INCREDIBLE! Absolutely loved it. It was good to step back and remember why we are working so hard.. practicing scale after scale and ridiculous tonging patters, it is easy to just get frustrated and forget about the big picture of music. Going to the concert really helped me remember why I am doing all the work that i am. It reminded me why I love music. The satisfaction and feeling of sitting there listening to such amazing performers and teachers reminded me of how powerful music is. It inspired me to work even harder because it is worth it.

Anyway... I went to my first NAfME Collegiate meeting yesterday. For those of you who saw that and were like  "ahh, what is she talking about" : NAfME stands for National Association for Music Education. So at the college level we are called NAfME Collegiate :D and it is like Tri-M but in college. Ok anyway. We had our first meeting yesterday, and I am so excited to get involved!! We got the music educators magazine, Voice, and to my surprise, my picture was in it again. If you did not hear last spring, I wrote a little article about Tri-M that got published in Voice and to go with my article there was a picture of 2 of my tri-m officers and I with a well known music educator. That picture is also in the issue that we just got :D that was exciting!! not to mention, the ice cream at the meeting was AMAZING... anyway....  after the meeting I kinda realized that I might want to major in music education so i can go on and teach at an elementary school. Im still not sure exactly what I will do, for now I am a performance major. However, I dont exactly know what I would do with a performance degree, whereas with music ed it is something I love and would enjoy doing everyday for the rest of my life....I dont think I can say that about performing, and auditioning. So its up in the air.

Well, I hope things are going well.

Results!

YAY!!!

After days of waiting the results are up, I am one of 3 flute freshman in Symphonic Winds. At Central we have 3 bands. In order they are Symphonic Band, Symphonic Winds, and Wind Ensemble. So as a freshman being in the middle group is pretty good and I am super happy with that! Rehearsals start next week so for now I am focusing on my solo music and etudes and scales .... all the good stuff :D

As far as stories go, I dont have much. ... It was really windy yesterday. I was walking to my dorm and as I walked, the wind would push whatever food was off the ground into the other. So that was entertaining. Tonight I am attending my first College Recital :) Its a harp and flute recital with my private lessons professor and a guest harpist... should be AMAZING!!! Also, I am the flute club treasurer... thats fun!! Flute club is new at central this year and the person putting it all together came up and asked if I would be treasurer. That will be a fun thing to do to start getting involved!!

So in general things are going great, lots of work and stress but its all good. I am growing a lot and cant wait to see where it takes me these next 4 years :D

AUDITION!!

Alright, So lets just start with the fact that I dont know the results yet. I will make a new post when I find out, hopefully tomorrow sometime :D
Ok so as far as the audition, I feel like it went pretty well. I was a little nervous.. but not to bad. I played pretty well, not my best.. but it was a audition so I was not surprised that it was not as good as it was in the practice room. I feel like I played the triple tonging piece better then I have ever played it. But the mozart was not my best. and the Hindemith was alright. Sight reading was not so good.... actually pretty bad!!! ehhhhh... I ended on a F sharp instead of a A flat..... and then just looked at professor ott and he smiled and was like ..."alright that was good :) " and then the orchestra director was like "Dr. Ott you are just mean!" (referring to the sight reading material)  and that made me feel better :) Also, professor ott walked me out of the room to get the next person and was like "that was a really good first audition!" and that was good to hear!! so i am excited to see the results :D
Here comes the second week of classes!! woot woot!

Classes!

Hey!!

I am so loving my classes! It has only been 2 days ... however, I think I am going to enjoy my classes. Besides the fact that music theory is going to be a butt load of work... and a big head ache. and the fact that me and piano are like salt on a gaping wound. and the fact that I dont like singing and defiantly am not good at sight singing... Good news is History of Jazz will be fun and easy!!! woot!!! and if nothing else I will come out of all these classes either stronger or be retaking them next year... lets hope for the first one :D

But really theory and piano are not that bad yet.. and my professors are really great. So I have concluded that everyone likes to EXAGGERATE how bad macgamut is and how bad sight singing is and how bad theory is... but lets see how I feel in December :D

I am loving it here so much, cant wait for it to start snowing :) and best of all I LOVE THE MOUNTAINS. There is a point on the walk back to my dorm form the surc (student union and recreation center) that you have the best view of the mountains and every time I see them I smile and tell everyone to look at them cuz they are so lovely!!! of course the reactions are never as excited as mine and come out more like "yeah... wow those are some nice piles of dirt...."  whatever... i still love them!! and cant wait til they are covered with SNOW!!! woot

Ok I am going to go attend to my pile of music that I need to whole punch and put in a binder :D
Miss you all and hope things are going well wherever you may be!!

Nothing Better to Do :D

Well, I have nothing better to do right now so I figured I would make up for all the times in the future that I will miss because I will become busy :)
This morning i was able to sleep in ... YES!!!!! and then I went over to the music building and practiced for a little. but at this point I'm just waiting for classes to start. They start tomorrow and I am pretty excited. Luckily i only have theory and history of jazz tomorrow... a good intro to college :) then thursday I have all my classes so that will be fun. Also, tomorrow the flute studio has a bbq at our professors house, that should be a blast! A good time to meet all the other flutists :D Im pretty excited for that!!!

So my favorite place to eat on campus is super close and I love it. It is called North Cafe and its this 'quaint' little restaurant type deal. It has things like salads, raps, burgers, smoothies.... stuff like that. So really I will always be in the north campus little corner because all of my classes are in the music building and my dorm is one building away and then food is like 2 min north of my dorm. Yes super nice, only thing is the rec center (the gym) is in the middle of campus.. so i guess i will have to make the trek every now and then to work off my nutella and gram crackers.

Well, I am loving campus!

If any of you want my address just facebook me or call me or whatever, I just dont want to post it so that creepers can see it :D

THIRD:  My room mate and I get along super well and are having a blast getting to know each other.

FIFTH: Auditions for bands are this coming Sunday, mine is at 3pm!! wish me LUCK!!!

and everything else is awesome. i really enjoy being in a basically all music dorm. favorite thing in this world is walking up the stairs and being surrounded by every instrument sound you can think of! it is the best feeling to walk in and hear 50 people who love music just as much or more then you do!

Well thats going to have to do for my first post because we are going to have a ice cream party now :D I miss you all and hope life is going well for you!!
